Ride-On Car Safety: A Parent’s Checklist

A ride-on car is enormous fun — and with a few simple habits it can also be very safe. Run through this checklist before your child’s first drive.

Before the first ride

  • Charge the battery fully as instructed in the manual.
  • Check all screws, wheels and connectors are tight.
  • Confirm the weight limit suits your child.
  • Pair and test the parent remote control.

Choose the right surface

Drive on flat, smooth ground — driveways, porches or paved gardens. Avoid slopes, stairs, roads, driveways open to traffic, and wet or sandy surfaces.

Supervision is non-negotiable

An adult should always be within reach. Keep the remote control in hand for younger children so you can stop the car instantly.

Dress for safety

Closed shoes, and no loose clothing, scarves or dangling cords that could catch in moving parts. Tie back long hair.

Set ground rules

  • One child at a time unless the car has two seats.
  • Stay seated — no standing or leaning out.
  • Keep hands and feet inside the car while moving.
  • No driving near pools, ponds or busy roads.

Ongoing care

Recharge the battery in a dry, ventilated area, never overnight unattended if your charger has no cut-off, and inspect the car regularly for wear.
